SRC Young Chemists Webinar - Nuclear chemistry: this modern discipline at the corner between medicine, energy and organic synthesis

Nuclear chemistry plays a key role in many highly valorized technologies, from energy production and medical diagnostics and treatments to advanced research in chemistry and biology. Yet, despite its societal impact, the discipline often remains poorly understood.

This webinar aimed to bring together chemists and scientists to discuss the current status of nuclear chemistry in Belgium, its role in cutting-edge research and innovation, and the challenges and needs expected in the coming years.

The event featured three invited speakers (Pascal FromentThibault Gendron and Sébastien Penninckx), each delivering a 15-minute presentation covering their scientific background, expertise, and key challenges. These expert contributions served as a basis for an open and interactive discussion on current R&D efforts and the future of nuclear chemistry, as well as on how this discipline can contribute to addressing major societal needs, particularly in energy, medicine, and research.

UCB Pharma Visit - Organic Synthesis

The SRC Young Chemists, in collaboration with UCB Pharma, were pleased to offer an exclusive opportunity for young researchers to discover the world of pharmaceutical research and innovation through a visit to the UCB site in Braine-l’Alleud. This visit allowed 15 PhD students in organic chemistry from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation to explore an industrial research environment and gain valuable insight into career opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry.

The program focused on UCB’s organic synthesis activities, providing participants with a concrete overview of the day-to-day reality of organic chemistry in an industrial environment, while fostering meaningful exchanges between academia and industry.

TotalEnergies OneTech Visit

The SRC Young Chemists offered a great opportunity for around forty young researchers from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation to explore the world of industrial research and innovation during a visit to TotalEnergies OneTech Belgium in Feluy.

This enriching experience provided valuable insights into pioneering innovations addressing today’s energy challenges. Participants discovered advanced pilot platforms, including recycling and polymer production, CO2 valorization into high-value-added products, and the production of green fuels from waste.
